Chatter in your head...

Think about this...how often you "talk" to yourself whether in your head or out loud? Is it usually one or more than one person/voice? (I am using the word "talk" very loosely here.)

I am sure most people do "talk" to themselves whether it is to help you figure something out, organize what you need to do, etc. I know for me I usually have numerous things going through my head. I will say some times it is hard for me to stay focused on one thing because my mind goes in all directions. I do not think my mind is out of control but it just goes all over the place once and a while. Sometimes I'll be thinking about what I need to get done, where I want to go, who I want to talk to, what I need/want to read, things I would like to blog about, thoughts about my future, things I have read, what I have talked about, what someone has told me, what I want to talk to God about, etc. In addition to my thoughts being everywhere, I found that I write best when I type out my thoughts as I randomly think them then put them in some order.

I will even admit at times I find it difficult to stay focused while praying. Yes, you'd think that should be a piece of cake because who wouldn't want to talk to God. I really am starting to get a different feel for prayer. I say this because I have been praying for my one friend to believe in and feel God for a few years now. She called me the other day saying she talked with a friend and she think she believes in religion now. This really showed me not to give up on prayer because God does answer them. I continue to pray that she will draw closer to God since this is only the tip of an iceberg.

Also, I bring this chatter in my head before God that He helps me control it when I am "talking" to him. I should be worrying about NOTHING but God when I am talking with Him. I want to do better with my focus especially when I am praying.

These closing thoughts I got from a philosopher's note that I read...So how’s your mind? Out of control or balanced? Get it balanced. Control your internal dialogue. Become equanimous.

(Did you know the word “equanimity” comes from the Latin words aequus and magnus literally meaning “equal/balanced mind”? Cool, eh?)
