Ephesians 4:29
"Watch the way you talk. Let nothing foul or dirty come out of your mouth. Say only what helps, each word a gift." The Message
"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building up others according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." NIV
Once I read this scripture, it made me think of some thing that happened the other night. While a couple of us were sitting around enjoying each others company, a comment was made that could have made the conversation go completely in the wrong direction. However, it did not go that direction because one person stepped in cutting it off before it went any further. And that was the end of that.
The next day I was walking with this friend and I thanked her for stepping up and stopping that conversation. I told her that we need to do that for each other because it will help us be accountable for things...I know for me sometimes I say things before I take time to thing about it and process it. And I know that is not a good thing to do but I'm working on it.
Accountability--liable to be called on to render for one's action
I think we all should have some one or a few people to keep you accountable because it will help you "build up others" since "each word is a gift." I know I need someone to just tell me to stop some times and I do not argue with them. Being told to stop necessarily is not a bad thing. Also, I do my best not to question it right then because there must be a reason why he or she told me to stop and if it is important I trust that the person would bring it up to me so I do not do it again. I am finding out how important it is to have a person or two to keep you accountable. So if you do not have some one you feel can keep you accountable I encourage you to find some body.
